My new ray of hope SfASE-Stacey McBain

Working from the comfort of my home has been and continues to be a very rewarding experience for me. I began my career as an English trainer. I also tutored and staffed a few online labs. I thoroughly enjoyed both my jobs, but, the schedule wasn’t flexible enough, and I couldn’t dedicate myself to the job as well as raising my three girls. So, I decided to give up my passion for teaching and pursue other things.

It was sometime in mid-2008. I happened to visit a few computer laboratories and found tens of students, hacking away at their keyboards. I got curious, as I was certain that these kids were not working on their own assignments. Upon inquiry, I discovered the field of professional editing and proofreading. The next few months saw me researching and applying for various jobs which had work from home option. I was very clear, that, to have a successful work from home career, it is important to have a mindset that it is a real job. It took me a couple of months to land my first job at SfASE- an editorial committee of professional editors and proofreaders from Asia; there has been no looking back since then. If you would have told me a couple of years ago, that I would be making a living as a freelancer, working from home, earning much more than what I used to earn doing two jobs, I would have laughed at you.

It has happened. In less than three years, I have built a successful career in the field of editing and proofreading that allows me the autonomy and flexibility that I have craved in the past. And the entire credit goes to SfASE (Society for Asian Science Editors), which has provided me a transparent platform to interact with scholars and editors. It has proved to be a ray of hope for me as it has provided me ample opportunities to intensify my skills. It has also improved my efficiency, as it enables me to meet scholars on a regular basis and acquire the needed information. My association with SfASE has allowed me to maximize my earnings while ensuring steady, professional growth in this field.

It has been an incredible journey so far; each day has been a learning experience. Regular training sessions held at SfASE for the development of academic and scientific skills has given me a lot of exposure and has sharpened my skills.
